OUR MISSION

At Bloc, we believe in the power of truth.

The world is saturated with empty promises, extravagant claims and quick fixes. In our almost 30 years of running The Skin Centre, we’ve seen first-hand how a congested skincare industry has left people perplexed about how to make sense of their skin, and how to care for it.

In 2018, we decided it was time for a skincare reawakening. We developed Bloc to bring your skin honest, effective formulas rooted in the power of science, and the wonders of the natural world. Achieving healthy, glowing skin goes beyond creams and serums - it’s also about getting to know the unique needs of your skin and learning how to maximise the benefits of formulas – so, we’re here to teach you everything we know.

Meet the Founders

We’re a small, expert team of doctors with over 30 years of dermatology experience, and we’re on a mission to change the face of skincare once and for all. Because when everyone understands the skin they’re in, everyone can achieve the skin they deserve.

Dr Michael Freeman

FOUNDER & DERMATOLOGIST ASSOC PROFESSOR

Michael is a leading expert in cosmetic and laser dermatology with over 30 years of dermatology experience. As well as leading the innovation behind Bloc’s formulas, he is at the forefront of the dermatology field, pioneering research, education and scientific breakthroughs. Over the years, he has facilitated 72 clinical trials, helping thousands of people in the treatment of chronic skin conditions.

Dr Andrew Freeman

CO-OWNER & DERMATOLOGIST

Andrew has been practising exclusively in dermatology for over a decade, and as well as being a Dermatologist specialising in Mohs Micrographic surgery, he is also the owner of The Skin Centre, a full-service dermatology clinic based on the Gold Coast. Andrew’s special interest is acne, skin rejuvenation and cosmetic laser procedures, and is a passionate educator of sun safety, skin cancer prevention and general skin health.

Ashley Freeman

CO-OWNER & DIRECTOR

Ashley is a lawyer, business owner and the Managing Director of The Skin Centre. She coordinates the smooth running of The Skin Centre, leads Bloc’s research and development function - from formula testing, to packaging and design - as well as managing the property development of a new hospital. She has over 13 years of experience in advising companies, dispute resolution, and leading countless strategic projects.

Amanda Appel

FOUNDER

Amanda Appel was one of the founders of BLOC Cosmetics, working in conjunction initially with her father, Dr Michael Freeman, from direct feedback from his patients at The Skin Centre. She further co-founded The Skin Centre Medi Spa, before selling her interests in these endeavours and moving to a new field; one of venue management for weddings and events.
